VIDEO: Erin O’Toole calls on the Trudeau Liberals to permanently lift COVID restrictions

The Conservative Party of Canada is calling on the Liberals to table a plan within 20 days with “a clear data-driven plan to support gradually, safely and permanently lifting COVID-19 restrictions,” said Erin O’Toole at his press conference Tuesday.

Bernier fires back

O’Toole’s Conservatives aren’t the only ones asking for this to happen — there are many others. O’Tool and his Conservatives are just piggybacking along now that it’s politically convenient for them.

Maxime Bernier and the People’s Party of Canada has been saying this since day one. Bernier today tweeted asking “did you just wake up @erinotoole?”

Groups calling for a change

“Unifor has been calling for the safe reopening of boarders using rapid testing and dynamic quarantine. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business [CFIB] has called for the expanded use of rapid screening to avoid further lockdowns. The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business has partnered with The Canadian Chamber of Commerce, The Retail Council of Canada, and the CFIB to collectively ask the Trudeau to present a national strategy,” said O’Toole.

Unsustainable for the economy to wait on a vaccine

“In their words, it is neither socially or economically sustainable to rely heavily on rotating lockdowns while we wait for an effective vaccine to be widely administered in the coming year — I agree.”

“These groups have been documenting the massive consequences of lockdowns on workers, small businesses and their millions of employees across Canada. In their words, it is neither socially or economically sustainable to rely heavily on rotating lockdowns while we wait for an effective vaccine to be widely administered in the coming year — I agree,” he said.

“That’s why today Canada’s Conservatives are calling on the Liberals to table, within 20 days, a clear data-driven plan to support gradually, safely and permanently lifting COVID-19 restrictions.”

The United States and United Kingdom leaders have plans to reopen — but not yet Canada

“The President of the United States and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom have both released public plans for economic reopening,” said O’Toole. But Mr. Trudeau refuses to give Canadians clarity on when regular — whether and when regular and social life will be able to resume — and under what circumstances and conditions. Which measures will help make the determination and what will that reopening look like?”

While things look like they may be headed in the right direction, Canadians will have to wait and see what Trudeau will do and what he has to offer to fix this mess he created.
