Uncertainty – When we are uncertain, and fearful, we can quickly jump to assumptions without digging into the data to see if the evidence backs up the original statement. We recently covered the government of Canada’s use of ambiguous wording in their tender bid for isolation/quarantine facilities, and as a result of that – we found that some people feared that the government was building guillotines to get rid of Canadians.

So Diverge Media started doing what we do best, we began researching the story by going directly to the source document itself to uncover the truth. Here is what we found;
1.) The first thing we noticed is that the description on the tender described the guillotines as “office devices and accessories.” This would obviously be an extremely off-putting classification if they were actually meant for a nefarious purpose.
2.) When we read through the solicitation documents that detail the requirements that must be met to obtain the bid, we found that that these guillotines were clearly meant for cutting – stacks of paper.
The requirements for the machine made it abundantly clear that there was nothing to worry about – unless you are a stack of paper.
Requirements of the hydraulic guillotine
9.) The Guillotines must have a minimum cutting width of 24 inches;
10.) The Guillotines must have a minimum feeding depth of 20 inches;
11.) The Guillotines must have a minimum feeding height of 3 inches;
By the time you get to the minimum feeding height you realize there is absolutely no way this device could be used for the nefarious purposes that are claimed on the internet. Just a few more lines down it says the following;
“The Guillotines must be able to cut different weights of paper (Offset100M/50lb).” The machine also must come with a one years parts and labor warranty. All in all, isn’t it nice having a conspiracy debunked these days?
