“This consent is engineered, largely by propaganda beamed at the populace by the rulers and their intellectual apologists.” – Etienne de la Boetie (1530-1563)
I’ve been reading through Etienne de la Boetie’s book The politics of Obedience: The Discourse of Voluntary Servitude and the connections that were drawn over 500 years ago read like a playbook to today’s government over-reaches. We have watched governments around the world rush to “educate” the public only to change their positions on a regular basis.
This should come as no surprise when we consider our new understanding of COVID. The rush to “educate” seems more like a rush to miseducate the populace into a form of obedience. “Through a process of educating the public to truth, they will give back to the people knowledge of the blessings of liberty and of the myths and illusions fostered by the state.” – Etienne de la Boetie
Manufacturing consent
“Consent is also actively encouraged and engineered by the rulers; and this is another major reason for the persistence of civil obedience. Various devices are used by the rulers to induce such consent.” – Etienne de la Boetie (1530-1563)
Doug Ford called Ontarians protesting his governments COVID policies Yahoo’s. This comes with the governments knowledge of a lawsuit against them for violation of The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and a litany of other government over-reaches during this COVID era. This equates to a form of public shaming. This is a clear example of the “elite” political class attempting to shame anyone who disagrees, and attempting to coerce those who may think similarly to not speak out — to induce their consent.
We have demonstrated through numerous articles that PCR testing for COVID and mandatory masking are both based on unproven methods that are causing the public to be misinformed about the risks of the virus, as well as to be overconfident in unproven methods like masking that could lead to more infection — not less.

“Another method of inducing consent is purely ideological: duping the masses into believing that the tyrannical ruler is wise, just, and benevolent.” – Etienne de la Boetie (1530-1563)
There is nothing more the “elite” ruling class would love to do than to dupe the masses into believing that their tyrannical rule to “address COVID” is just, wise and benevolent. They want us to believe that they are a force for good — snatching away our rights and freedoms for “our safety.” All while crumbling the futures of our nations and shutting down dissenting voices.
Debts around the world are soaring — the rich keep getting richer. I believe in true capitalism, but what we have now is perversion of democracy and an affront to capitalism – we have corporatism. Emergency measures have been taken across the world and governments are actively encouraging individual municipalities to develop their own COVID measures.
This seems like a strategic move to make any legal action difficult. It means a challenge will have to be drafted in each individual municipality (to our understanding) — no small task, even for the most experienced legal savant. Ontario is just “recommending masks when physical distancing isn’t possible”, while asking the local municipalities to enforce their own versions. This passes the responsibility of good governance off of the provincial and federal governments and onto the local municipalities who seem all to eager to play along.

Speak up — change the course
“There are always a few, better endowed than others, who feel the weight of the yoke and cannot restrain themselves from attempting to shake it off. These are the people who in contrast to “the brutish mass,” possesses clear and far-sighted minds, and “have further trained them by study and learning.” Such people never quite disappear from the world; “Even if liberty had entirely perished from the earth, such men would invent it.” – Etienne de la Boetie (1530-1563)
It is clear to many that liberty and freedom are under assault all across the globe. We have a choice to look at the mammoth of the challenge and be overwhelmed — or resolve to change the course for the future. Freedom and liberty will always be essential and we must protect them at all cost — even against mob rule.
Many times throughout history a small group of people were called to stand for truth, freedom, and justice — and thankfully they answered the call. We have enjoyed many years of un-paralleled rights and freedoms brought about on the backs of those that bore a great deal of pain and suffering to ensure these rights and freedoms were never threatened again. Every generation has had their battles — ours is no exception.
So who will answer the call? Who will have the courage to stand — even when people rise up against them? The blunt truth of the matter is this — the future of our nations depends on our collective actions today. We must stand together and especially behind the intellectuals who beckon the call to speak up about the truth and demand accountability from those in power.
If we stand United and resilient, our voice will be heard. There are many experts who are trying to speak up right now but are being silenced — we need to stand behind them and amplify their voices. As la Boetie said “those who “have preserved their love of freedom, still remain ineffective because, however numerous they may be, they are not known to one another; under the tyrant they have lost freedom of action, of speech, and almost of thought; they are alone in their aspiration.”
We know that we are not alone in our beliefs about the mishandling of this “pandemic.” We know that many want to speak up but are afraid of the repercussions that it will bring in their lives — so let us stand in unison to prove they are not alone in their aspirations.
We can change the course we are on — but your voice is needed.
