“I feel like I’m not in Canada anymore,” Maxime Bernier speaks at Barrie Freedom Rally

Over 500 people gathered together today at the Freedom Rally in Barrie, Ont., to protest lockdowns and the new restrictions placed upon Ontarians on April 16.

Barrie Police were on scene and remained in the outskirts of the crowds for the event which took place from noon till around 2 p.m. Saturday at Meridian Place.

According to a tweet from Barrie Police, eight people, including the event organizer, were issued a Provincial Offence Notice by authorities.

A number of individuals spoke at the event, including the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) Leader, Maxime Bernier.

“I am looking at what is happening right now in our country. I am looking at what happened in Communist China and I feel like I’m not in Canada anymore,” said Bernier.

“I’m a proud Canadian like you,” Bernier added. “And you know we need always to fight for our freedom because right now we cannot take our freedoms for granted anymore.”

Bernier also spoke on Ford’s new restrictions saying the restrictions were not “our Canada.”

“I cannot believe, yesterday like you, I was watching the news. I was watching Doug Ford when he said that if you’re in a car driving around in Ontario, the police may arrest you, to ask you for your papers and ask you where are you going, why are you going? So that is not our Canada,” said the PPC leader.

He spoke on “authoritarian governments,” telling protesters now is the time to defend their values.

“We must defend our freedom, our way of life, our western civilization values right now against these authoritarian governments in Ottawa, in B.C. and Quebec. Enough is enough.”
