A group of Canadian politicians called for an end to lockdowns in a public statement on April 15th, 2021. The group known as “Liberty Coalition Canada” consists of elected members from the Government in both the federal and provincial levels. The list of concerned public servants also includes mayors and councillors.
In total there are 22 currently elected public servants from all levels of government calling for an end to lockdowns. The group also has 3 former members of parliament (federal) among its ranks, 5 former members of a legislation assembly (provincial), 3 former mayors and 13 former councillors. The Liberty Coalition’s End the Lockdowns caucus consists of 50 members in total that agree that lockdowns need to end.
Liberty Coalition Canada says that “the caucus is a non-partisan group seeking to provide formal challenges to current COVID19 policies with a specific emphasis on ending governments use of province-wide lockdowns and stay-at-home orders.”
They summarize their position as the following:
“We are current and former elected representatives from municipal, provincial, and federal levels of government across Canada, unified in pursuit of the truth, and resolved to ensure there is open, honest, and public debate regarding the COVID-19 government response. After careful examination and scrutiny of mitigation measures undertaken by all levels of government, it is now evident that the lockdowns cause more harm than the virus and must be brought to an end.“
The Press conference
The press conference started with the member of parliament from Hastings—Lennox and Addington, Ontario – Derek Sloan. He began by saying that “our sole concern of course is to protect Canadians from all harms including Covid but in such a way that our net outcome is better as opposed to worse.”
Mr. Sloan continued:
“And I believe with the implementation of the lockdowns as we have seen them we are in fact worse off than if we had done more targeted measures to protect the most vulnerable.”
Sloan took the time to pick apart how this government has failed Canadians. In speaking about the government’s approach to Covid during the early stages Mr. Sloan said “early failure to restrict travel, I believe enabled the virus to gather critical steam here in Canada.” He added that “well countries like Taiwan implemented travel measures against Covid-19 on January 1st of 2020, our public health authorities were calling them racist and ineffective for months after this time.”

The second failure
Sloan continued his message by speaking about the elderly. He said “the second failure was a failure to protect the elderly.” Mr. Sloan continued “we knew very early on that the virus was impacting disproportionately our elderly and yet very little was done to keep them safe. It is true that the regulation of nursing homes and healthcare is a provincial matter and there were failures at that level but the federal government was not sounding the alarm on this when early data showed that seniors were disproportionately affected.”
The third failure
Sloan said that the third failure was “a failure to engage in experimental and prophylactic usage of promising drug and vitamin treatments.” He used Ivermectin and vitamin D as examples but noted that “there are others.”
He referenced a study from the Karalinska Institute to talk about vitamin D. The studies co-author Peter Bergman said the following about the findings from the vitamin D studies:
“Those who received 400-1000 IU/day had the best response, as the group that received such a dose showed a protective effect of about 40 percent against respiratory infections. I want to stress that there were no signals in the study that normal doses of vitamin D were dangerous or caused adverse reactions.”
When speaking about Ivermectin Mr. Sloan said “recently the World Health Organization updated its guide on therapeutics and Covid-19. Under Ivermectin the meta-analysis shows an 81 percent drop in mortality among those who used Ivermectin as opposed to standard care. It also shows a 65 percent decrease in hospitalization. Non the less the World Health Organization refuses to endorse it because it claims the confidence level is low.”
The MP representing Hastings—Lennox and Addington added that he was shocked by the handling of Ivermectin by global elites:
“It is shocking to me that these global elites would continue to treat this long use drug as experimental while treating novel vaccines that were only studied by the companies creating them as ironclad and we are seeing issues with some of these vaccines right now.”
Randy Hillier, the representative from Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston in Ontario said that he believed “that our province and our country is facing the greatest threat that it has ever faced in its existence and in its history. This threat is not external. This threat is not Covid” he said, “this threat is a struggle and a conflict for the conscience of Canadians.” Hillier also noted that we’ve seen our government institute unconstitutional measures that are “political” in nature under the “pretext of a health crisis.”
Mr. Hillier pointed out the censorship that is taking place in the Covid era. “We are engaged in tremendous censorship in our society. Through the mainstream media, through social media and self-censorship of ourselves in desire for conformity.”
He laid out the grim reality of the rule of law in Canada during Covid as well:
“Our provinces will not uphold the rule of law, our federal government will not uphold the rule of law and we are becoming a lawless society without freedom. That’s what has happened since March of 2020 and it’s happened because we prevent honest discussion. We preclude honest dissent. People are ridiculed and scorned for speaking of evidence and data that contradicts the public health narrative.”
These sentiments of government overreach and a general lack of protection of Canadians rights was echoed by the leader of the Peoples Party of Canada, Maxime Bernier. The leader of the PPC said that “we must re-open our economy knowing that Canadians under the age of 70 have a 99.95 percent survival rate among those infected with the virus.” Bernier added that “Canadians under 30 are more likely to die from the seasonal flu than from Covid-19. “
Mr. Bernier also took shots at the government and media:
“Governments and media are stoking public fear about Covid by silencing conflicting opinions and expertise. Doctors, nurses from across the country have proven that lockdowns are an ineffective measure, but the hysterical narrative is pushed above rational debate.” Bernier concluded by saying that “this Covid hysteria must end – common sense and scientific debate must prevail.”

Bernier also took the opportunity to state his opposition to vaccine passports. When referring to the concept of a vaccine passport Mr. Bernier said “I don’t want a show me your papers society. We will never accept it – it’s not the Canadian way.” Mr. Bernier added that “the Peoples Party of Canada is the only national political party fighting openly to end these authoritarian lockdowns and fighting against the imposition of vaccine passports.”
