Mask Mandate may stay for Viruses Other than Covid-19

Earlier today, independent MPP Roman Baber released a short clip of an interview that CTV News did with the Chief Medical Officer – Dr. Kieran Moore. In the short video, Dr. Moore hints that masking could be required for viruses other than Covid.

In the interview, Dr. Kieran Moore said that there is; “A virus called RSV respiratory syncytial virus and as people stop wearing masks and socially get together that virus is actually spreading very rapidly in the southern United States causing children who didn’t get exposed to it during the winter to get that virus into their chest and it will mimic Covid.” The comments don’t provide relief for parents that are sick and tired of masking their children to send them to be educated.

It’s interesting that Dr. Moore appears to think mandatory masking is an appropriate measure to combat what the CDC calls “a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms.” I Don’t think masking our children was required for Covid and I most certainly don’t think it should be continued for common respiratory viruses.

Dr. Moore comments also show Ontarians that he is either ignorant of or ignoring a study out of the Journal of the American Medicine Association that was released on June 30th, 2021. The study found that after just 3 minutes of children wearing a mask, the amount of carbon dioxide they were breathing inside their masks was 6 times higher than what is deemed acceptable by the German Federal Environmental Office.

The frustration is more fully understood when we then consider that the CDC themselves said that masks are 1.9% effective at best in reducing deaths and mortality. The study said that Mask mandates were associated with “decreases of 1.0, 1.4, 1.6, and 1.9 percentage points 21–40, 41–60, 61–80, and 81–100 days”, respectively, after implementation. “

When we then take the time to ponder and understand the harm that the mask mandates cause children and the phycological concerns it brings about when thinking about child development – we should be even more alarmed at this kind of rhetoric from Dr. Moore.

Why Mandating Masking in Children is bad policy

One German study created a registry of 18,000 parents where they could report any side-effects of mask-wearing in their children. Sixty-eight percent of parents reported impairments caused by wearing masks in their children. Of these complaints 60% were due to irritability, 53% from headaches, 50% of children reported difficulty concentrating, 49% reported being less happy when forced to dawn the mask and a staggering 44% of parents reported their children had a reluctance to go to school.

That’s good for the development of society right – when 50% of the children report difficulty concentrating in school from a mask mandate that is mostly political theatre. What about the 44% that reported reluctance about going to school due to the mask mandate – do we want to kill a child’s desire to learn? What is the goal here? We also know that children learn about their place in the world from reading the micro-expressions that get displayed on people’s faces – the same faces Dr. Kieran Moore wants to keep covered up for any virus.
