Ace and the Scout, a new film being released in October 2022, honours the memory of Francis Pegahmagabow – World War I’s most successful sniper with 378 confirmed kills and his contemporary, flying ace, Billy Bishop.
In the statement from Ian Brodie, Chair of the Leadership Election Organization Committee (LEOC), he says:
“In recent weeks, our Party became aware of serious allegations of wrongdoing by the Patrick Brown campaign that appear to violate the financial provisions of the Canada Elections Act. Following our Rules and Procedures for the 2022 Leadership, the Chief Returning Officer notified the Patrick Brown campaign of the allegations and asked for a written response. He also withheld the interim membership list from the Patrick Brown campaign.”
With Bill S-233 being debated in the Senate, perhaps it’s time to have a serious look at a national framework for a guaranteed livable basic income? Conservative Senator, Hugh Segal has been a proponent of such a mechanism for decades yet it is usually panned as ‘too expensive’, an infringement on provincial jurisdiction, or a disincentive for participation in the labour force by those right of centre.
When Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government brought in the ban on “assault style weapons” in May of 2020 through an order in council and more recently announced the “handgun ban” this year, he effectively criminalized the most law-abiding members of Canadian society. Punishing legal gun owners in Canada while ignoring the real causes of gun crime seems absurd, but that is exactly what these new laws do.
There was much controversy and disagreements between the Federal Progressive Conservative Party under Peter Mackay and the Reform Party under Stephen Harper, however they did realize that they would never be able to win a general election without uniting.
After many machinations and negotiations, the new Conservative Party of Canada was formed but not until Progressive Conservative leader, Peter MacKay secured a weighted ballot system for voting within the party.
Looking for an expert opinion on the validity of these machines, I spoke with a CTO of a tech company and graduate with an MSc in Software Engineering from the University of Oxford. He told me “I think one primary security challenges of any digital voting system relates to who has access to administrative privileges and control of log files. Privileges can be easily granted to administrative users to modify data and remove changes in the log files. I believe Dominion voting machines use Microsoft SQL Server, which in itself is secure, but can of course be freely modified by administrators without detection.
Jim Karahalios says that he always knew this was going to be a “long term project” that there are “no quick fixes” in our current political malaise. He is pleased that New Blue’s grassroots strategy has paid off and they have achieved their goals of having a constituency association and viable candidate in every one of the 124 ridings, have grown awareness and are making headway in challenging the legacy party narrative.
I could hear the exhaustion and hope in his voice when he told me that “Things are looking good on the ground. Support keeps growing across the province and I think that we are competitive.”
Unless you can walk or drive a personal vehicle, you cannot go anywhere within the country and you certainly can’t leave it. Some businesses won’t let you in. You cannot practise your profession and you could lose your professional designation. Your children cannot attend regular schooling, sports or social activities. Higher education will not accept you. Your government, the one you have paid taxes to your entire life, now says that you are unclean and unfit for society. The leader of the country publicly queries “How long will we tolerate these people”.
Summer is coming and many people are thinking about their vacation, but can you travel within or outside of Canada this year? The answer is a little more complicated than you might think. As other countries remove their entry and exit mandates, Canada has only loosened theirs…a little.
Every day we watch and listen as language gets politicized, meanings of words changed, and people silenced through “cancel culture”. One starts to wonder if we are living in a 1984 “Newspeak” world? Are we intentionally being deceived? Is Mainstream and social media dividing people on purpose? Are the facts being manipulated to fit an agenda? What happened to our liberal ideals of free expression and sovereignty of the individual? Are we losing our humanity to a digital world?
